Synopsis
‘Barcas
de plata’ is the first solo album by Encarna Anillo,
produced by Miguel Poveda and José Anillo. The
Cádiz-born cantaora offers a classical-style
cante repertoire, to which she adds her unmistakable
personal trademark and the freshness of her time, inspired
by maestros such as La Perla, Antonio Chacón,
Aurelio Sellés, La Trini and Manolo Caracol.
And she does so with the maturity and experience built
up over two decades of work beside great figures like
Carmen Linares and La Farruca.
On this first record she is
accompanied by a brilliant selection of guitars, among
others, those of Chicuelo, Juan Requena, Rafael Rodríguez,
Juan Diego and Diego del Morao. She also has the collaboration
of Carmen and Carmelilla Montoya, Farruquito, Farru
and Pepe de Pura, among others. Encarna Anillo reveals
herself on ‘Barcas de plata’ as a young,
mature cantaora, classical and of her time, gutsy
and sensitive. An album and a cantaora to last.
Biography
Encarna
Anillo (Cádiz, 1983) got started in flamenco
as a little girl. Shortly thereafter, she was already
singing at Andalusian festivals. She began with cante
for baile together with Rafaela Carrasco, Andrés
Marín, Belén Maya and Farruquito, performing
on Spanish and international stages alike. At Bienal
de Sevilla 2000, she took part in ‘Metamorfosis’
by Israel Galván, ‘Colores’ by Rafael
de Carmen and ‘Elenco de Cádiz’.
As a soloist, she went on a tour of Japan together with
Chano Lobato, and appeared at the Grec Festival in Barcelona,
accompanied by Chicuelo, whom she also performed with
in ‘Flamenco en orquesta’ directed by Joan
Albert Amargós. In 2004, Israel Galván
calls on her for ‘Galvánicas’. At
the Bienal de Flamenco, she participates in ‘Sevilla’;
and in ‘Asimetrías’ by Andrés
Marín. That year she collaborates on two record
projects: ‘No hay quinto malo’ by Niña
Pastori and ‘Himno de Andalucía’.
In 2006 she combines her recitals with the shows ‘Gitanas’
by La Farruca and ‘Desde el alma’ by Carmen
Linares. She takes part in the recording of an audiovisual
for Bose, starring Juan Diego. In summer 2007, she participates
in Blanca Li’s show 'Poeta en Nueva York', performed
at La Alhambra. She previewed the contents of her first
album 'Barcas de plata' at Málaga en Flamenco
2007, at Gibralfaro Castle. With the repertoire of this
first album, she starred in Flamenco-world.com’s
10th Anniversary.o-world.com.

plata', by J.M.Velázquez-Gaztelu
"En el disco se refleja la riqueza estilística
de Anillo, su amplio repertorio, con diez cantes en
ocasiones diametralmente opuestos, tanto en estructura
musical como en concepto rítmico: la milonga
y la bulería, la zambra y la soleá,
que no sólo demuestran la versatilidad de esta
cantaora, sino su capacidad para asimilar el legado
flamenco en sus más variadas formas" See

LA VOZ Juan José Téllez (Cádiz,

“Rather sooner than later, we Andalusians will
again become what we once were. And the flamenco of

young names, will also become what it once was”
FLAMENCO-WORLD.COM
Silvia Calado (Madrid, October 18th, 2007)
And without wasting much time, Carmen Linares left
her place to her artistic godchild. Encarna Anillo
picked up the invitation with the temperance of an
expert. She chose alegrías, which are nearly
innate to her, to start off. But she chewed them over
slowly, unhurriedly, pressing only when she found
it convenient
EL PAÍS Fermín Lobatón (Málaga, September
2nd, 2007)
“Care was taken in the way sung by the Cádiz-born
artist, who offered a very extensive range of styles
treated exquisitely. Encarna managed to shift from
the firm quejío to sweet words by uttering
the cante with mature temperance”.
EL MUNDO Manuel Martín (Málaga, August 31st,
2007)
“Encarna Anillo has at her disposal a melodious
register capable of adapting, by means of art and
compás, to the mysteries of those unforgettable
cantes which make anyone’s soul’s hair
stand on end, such as the soleá and alegrías
of her native land, the malagueña, the bulerías
and the tientos chaconianos”
